Football Match Fixing

Fixed matches, also known as match-fixing, is a form of cheating in organized sports where the outcome of a game or match is predetermined by one or more players. The most common motive for match-fixing is to gain financial benefit from betting on the predetermined outcome. Fixed matches have been a problem in professional sports for decades, and the issue has become more prevalent in recent years due to the rise of online betting and the ease of access to betting markets.

In 2020, Sportradar’s systems flagged 526 highly suspicious games across sports, including 17 basketball matches in Thailand alone that are suspected to have been fixed. In January 2021, a court heard that Spanish first division club Osasuna fixed football matches in an attempt to avoid relegation over two seasons.

Half time/full time fixed matches are a type of fixed match that involves betting on the outcome of a game at halftime and full time. In this type of bet, the bettor must correctly predict both the result at halftime and the final result of the game. The odds for half time/full time bets are typically higher than for standard match result bets, as the chances of correctly predicting both outcomes are lower.

However, as with all fixed matches, half time/full time fixed matches are illegal and unethical. These types of matches are often organized by dark networks and involve bribing players, referees, or other officials to influence the outcome of the game. The purpose of fixing a match is usually to make a profit from betting on the predetermined outcome.

It is important to note that betting on fixed matches is not only against the rules of sports and betting, but it can also have a damaging effect on the integrity of the game. Match-fixing undermines the principles of fair play and sportsmanship that are essential to the enjoyment and credibility of organized sports.
